The waste disposal site in Gálvölgye street, in Ózd, has been the municipal waste disposal place of Ózd. From 2007 the municipal waste disposal of Ózd and its area was here. It conformed to the relevant provisions, but since 1st July 2009, it could not operate according to its original function, because it was a landfill without mechanical safe. The landfill did not and does not endanger its environment due to its lucky natural circumstances and the careful attention. However, it is necessary to take care for the 1.7 million cubic metre waste.
The tender is at the second round, that provides the recultivation of closed landfills in the area of Sajó-Bódva Völgye és Környéke Hulladékkezelési Önkormányzati Társulás (Local Government Waste Treatment Association of Sajó-Bódva Valley and its Area). The landfill of Ózd is also part of this project. We hope that the work will be started in 2013.
The landfill stopped to operate in the classical sence. However the management of inert waste (first of all, fraction of safe and clean construction and demolition wastes) is problem in the subregion of Ózd (and in the whole country as well). Treatment facility and disposal which has obtained a permit is in Sajókaza the closest. The ÓHG Kft. initiated that in the area of the closed landfill these kinds of waste could be placed supporting recultivation. We have got the permission till 31st August 2014, its number: 10275-8/2011.
We may have arise the question, if the original function of the landfill must be eliminated, what happens with the waste in the subregion?
The ISPA programme that was winned by the Sajó-Bódva Társulás (Sajó-Bódva Assosiation), that we have already mentioned, contained e development part that guarantees the possibility of waste collection and pre-treatment of waste in the region. It is the Hulladéktömörítő és Átrakóállomás in Ózd (Refuse Compaction and Transfer Station of Ózd), it is a junkyard as well. In June 2009, the ÓHG Kft. started to manage the facility, together with the landfill in Gál-völgye street.
Except the inert waste the Hulladékkezelő Centrum in Sajókaza (Waste Management Centre in Sajókaza) is the waste treatment and disposal place in the whole area of the Association. The transfer station has key role in solving the area waste treatment problems. On the one hand, the municipal solid waste is compacted by a high performance device, so that it can be transported more economically into the place of disposal, and on the other hand, it is guaranteed that the domestic waste whether it is hazardous or non-hazardous will be in the proper place, apart from some extreme cases. In practice, it works and the facility and its work supports realising the modern waste management.
