The Sajó-Bódva Völgye és Környéke Hulladékkezelési Önkormányzati Társulás (Local Government Waste Treatment Association of Sajó-Bódva Valley and its Area), that was founded by Ózd, enabled the consideration of tasks of municipal solid waste treatment and disposal in Ózd and in its subregion. It provided opportunity for the stoppage of nonmodern landfill in Ózd, technically developing the machines, introducing selective waste collection, and the economic transport of waste that was collected in the transfer station, in Ózd.
- As parts of the project, the following activities and development were realised in the subregion of Ózd:
- Because of the oldness of the landfill in Ózd, it did not met the EU requirements. The landfill was changed by the Sajókaza municipal wasate landfill, in 2006. It is able to accept the municipal waste from 127 villages from the area.
- A transfer station and the junkyard were created in Ózd. Its tender was won by the Sajó-völgyi Hulladékkezelési Konzorcium (Waste Treatment Consortium in Sajó Valley) and it was managed by the Betonút Zrt. The contract was subscribed on 19th April 2007, then the solemnly presentation was on 24th June 2008 in the presence of Dr. Lajos Oláh, the state secretary of Ministry of Rural Development.
- 69 selective waste collection spots were placed in Ózd and in its area.

What are junkyards?
A junkyard is a landfill surrounded with fence, where one can take the selectively collected domestic waste. Here one can almost everything place in environment safely and legal way. The waste is taken onto the junkyard by collection, transport in big containers (in case of order), residential or public conveyance. Some kinds of waste is taken from here to the proper disposal place.
The junkyard of Ózd subregion was founded with a waste transport state as well, where the collected municipal waste is thrown into the funnel of a compactor machine, and with the help of pressure it is compacted in a 27 m3, closed container. The fractions collected selectively are also compacted. When it is full it is transported to the Waste Treating Cenre of Sajókaza, considering the environment pollution as well..
Where is the nearest junkyard?
The inhabitants of Ózd subregion can take their waste into the junkyard near the 25th main road. The landfill functions not only as a junkyard but the municipal solid waste is pre-treated hear as well, by mechanical treatment (compaciting) and selecting. The selected waste can be handled or sold for the minder who has licence.
What kinds of waste can I bring to the junkyard?
The inhabitants can leave here their waste freely, e.g. hazardous domestic waste, electrical devices, old things, old tyres, or compostable waste. Institutions have to pay for leaving the waste here. And only 500 kg/year hazardous waste can be placed in the junkyard.
