What is selective waste collection?
Selective waste collection means the separate collection of waste. Its aim is to get secondary raw material, so that it is easier to recycle, and there will be less waste placed at the landfills. So it is worth collecting separately waste that is in large quantity and because of their material they can be recycled, e.g. paper, plastic, metal. It is one of the most important part of the Sajó-Bódva Valley regional waste treatment project to introduce selective waste collection in 127 villages of the region. As a result o fit, the selective waste collection could be started in 2006 in the Ózd subregion as well, where are 69 selective waste collection spots. From it 50 are in Ózd and there will be 4 more in 2009. From 2007 the selective waste collection by trucks are available in some family house area. The success of the project is proved by the fact that the quantity of selectively collected waste was increased after the start in 2006.
Selective waste collection on the spots The selective waste collection spot is a kind of solution where the different materials of the selectively collected waste, that arose at the inhabitants, are separately put in the bins.
What can be collected at the collection spots? Two of the containers on the spots are for the plastic bottles (PET bottles), one for paper, glass, and metal. It is important to know that the hazardous waste and other materials that do not belong to the above mentioned ones are forbidden to put in these containers. The notes on the containers give more information about the use of selective waste collection spots.
Where are the selective waste collection spots? In the Ózd subregion, there is one spot for approximately 1000 inhabitants, it is the national average as well. The place of sselective waste collection spots can be seen on the www.ohg.hu website, and the map in the telephonebook of Ózd.
Selective waste collection trucks in the area of house with garden (collection with sack) It is available from 2007 in the Ózd subregion, where there are houses with garden areas. Here the selective waste collection spots are substituted by sacks. The sack for paper, plastic and metal waste that can be mixed collected. The aim of the introduction was to make the selective waste collection more effective. However there are smaller villages, and the inhabitants may put the above mentioned waste in the sacks - apart from glass. The ”sacked” are transported by separate waste collection trucks to Sajókaza.
Mik gyűjthetőek szelektíven a zsákos gyűjtés esetén? A zsákokban hasonlóan a gyűjtőszigetektől kissé eltérően, csak papír, műanyag és fémhulladékok gyűjthetőek szelektíven. Műanyag és fémek esetén is elsősorban az üdítős dobozok és palackok. Felhívjuk figyelmüket, hogy üveget NE rakjanak a zsákokba, hiszen pl. a törött üveg felhasíthatja a zsákot ill. a begyűjtő, válogató személyzet sérülését okozhatja. Az üveg továbbra is elhelyezhető a már megszokott helyen található gyűjtőszigeteken.
What can be separately collected in case of ”sack” collection? In the sacks there can be separately collected only paper, plastic and metal waste. In case of metal and plastic waste, first of all we think of drink cans or bottles. Please DO NOT put glas in the sack, because e.g. the broken glass may cut the sack or it can hurt the collecting, selecting personnel. The glass should be placed in the waste collecting spots. :

What happens to the selectively collected waste? The collected waste requires further selection, to enhance their material clearance. After the selection, usually the same kind of material is recycled, and became useful secondary raw materal for the economy. So that we help to save our environment, because there is less waste in the landfills, and as the secondary raw material can be used, we decrease the exploitation of nature.
